Adults $15, Seniors $12, Students $2. Tickets available through the Epic Center Box Office, the Miller Auditorium Box Office (269-387-2300) and at the door.

Saturday night features a sampling of some of his finest sacred cantatas. The concert will also explore various aspects of current performance practices of the music of Bach, including the use of one voice per part.

  • Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (God's time is the best of all)
  • Cantata 106 "Actus Tragicus" This cantata was likely an early work in Bach's career and written for a funeral. One of Bach's most beautiful works, known for its tranquil and reflective qualities. The opening sinfonia is particularly exquisite, as the two recorders intertwine an expressive melody over a repeated bass line.
  • O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort (Oh eternity, thou thunder-word)
  • Cantata 60 A miniature cantata that features a duet between Fear (alto) and Hope (tenor). This incredible work features the oboe d'amore and leads into the chorale Es ist genung. As Alec Robertson points out "…the remarkable harmonisation of the first two bars still has the power to startle, the chromatic harmonies six bars before the end, to amaze". Alban Berg uses this chorale in the final movement of his beautiful violin concerto.
  • Jesu, der du meine Seele (Jesus, Thou who my soul)
  • Cantata 78 starts with one of the most glorious choruses in all music. In the form of a passacaglia above a chromatic descending motif built from a basically simple figure and incorporating the chorale melody, this astonishing piece simply takes the breath away.
  • Komm, du süsse Todesstunde (Come thou sweet death's hour)
  • Cantata 161 Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele (Deck yourself, my soul, with gladness)
  • Cantata 180
